| Jazz Notes: The Westbrook High School Jazz Ensemble participated in the 34th annual High School Jazz Festival held at Berklee College in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, January 19, 2002. The Jazz Ensemble played its way into the evening Finalist Competition and finished in second place in the Division III group. In addition, senior Wayne Malloy, lead trumpet player, was named Outstanding Musician in Division III, received the Judges Choice Award, and the Berklee award of merit which is awarded to the top musicians at the event. Other musicians recognized from Westbrook were Tyler Britting, trombone player, receiving the other Outstanding Musician award in Division III, and Derrick Ramos, alto sax player, received the Berklee award of merit. Berklee's annual event is the largest of its kind in the United States. There were 82 schools from throughout the Northeast, New York, and New Jersey that particpated in this years Berklee Jazz Festival. |
